I explore what happens when our familiar sense of self and world gives way—and what those changes might tell us about reality.

My work moves between psychology, mystical experience, philosophy, writing, art and technology.

Can a change in experience also be a change in what we are able to know?

Mystical experiences can alter the most basic assumptions we carry about ourselves and the world. I’m interested in taking their first-person character seriously, while examining their psychological, philosophical and religious implications.

Writing gives me room to follow an argument, a voice or a life. Art and music work through perception. Immersive environments open another possibility: constructing a space in which experience itself becomes the material.

These approaches overlap, but they also question one another. I want to keep that conversation open.

A path through
experience.

My early interest in consciousness took me through applied mathematics and neuroscience at UFRJ, then into psychology and clinical practice. Spontaneous nonordinary experiences, meditation and a sustained engagement with contemplative traditions changed the direction of that inquiry.

I am a psychologist with 15 years of clinical experience, the author of Encontro com o Absoluto, and a PhD researcher in Religious Studies at Rice University. My artistic practice includes painting, photography, electronic music and immersive digital environments.

Monkadelic is my studio and experimental practice: a place for art, music and technology to meet.
